After a scary weekend in presidential politics, Republican donors descending on Milwaukee are being invited to party.
A presidential nominating convention is always full of festivities and libations for the ultra-rich. Both political parties market the events as a reward of sorts for the hard work (and hard cash) invested by wealthy contributors and fund-raisers. This week’s Republican National Convention is no different, according to a copy of upcoming events circulated by the Trump campaign to donors and seen by The New York Times.
The celebration began Sunday evening at a host committee welcome party at the Summerfest fairgrounds by Lake Michigan. It continues into Monday, when a welcome reception and “late-night bites” bookend the first evening of the convention.
Tuesday features a coffee with Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida for those who pay to attend, a tour of the Harley-Davidson Museum and a national security and foreign policy dinner with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, according to the schedule.
Wednesday’s events include an “Election Integrity Coffee” with Sen. Bill Hagerty and the Republican National Committee chairman, Michael Whatley; a reception with the vice-presidential nominee and a dinner with other dignitaries. Those who pay extra can also attend a dinner with Gov. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia.
Thursday brings coffee event with House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana and a former speaker, Newt Gingrich of Georgia. Later that day, Mr. Trump and his vice-presidential nominee will headline an event. The week of activities ends that evening with a concert featuring country star Jason Aldean.
Of course, donors also get to watch the convention itself. They’ll have access to suites inside the venue, the Fiserv Forum, with food, drink and prime views of the convention floor.
