Some Elden Ring Fans Aren’t Quite Understanding Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Massive DLC

by NewsB

The composition of Elden Ring, done by Hidetaka Miyazaki, is no less than that of a perfectly orchestrated choir. However, the same can be hardly said about the game’s recent DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, which was released last month.

Since setting foot in the Realm of Shadow, not only players have been subject to getting defeated by the new tougher and harder bosses, but they have also been wondering what the Tarnished’s purpose was in arriving here in the first place.

Even before the expansion was released, it was established how the player would be guided by Miqiella’s footsteps in the undiscovered lands, making them stumble upon many different enemies and other NPCs who seem to be followers of the empyrean as well.

However, according to many, there seems to be no particular objective for the tarnished to stick around and explore the Realm of Shadow in the first place, bearing in mind how it does not affect the ending of the base game as well.

From another perspective, it can also be said that fans were expecting the new addition of content to fill every single gap left in the base game, including the mystery of the Gloam-Eyed Queen and Godwyn the Golden.

Unfortunately, that did not turn out to be the case, and instead what players received was a separate storyline covering the past of the Empyrean Twin, which arguably ended abruptly towards the end, leaving many questions unanswered once again.

There remains no doubt that the FromSoftware title released back in 2022 is a generational game that comes along once in a while, but it carries a few flaws as well, which were not taken care of but instead exaggerated in the game’s expansion.

To begin with, Elden Ring features a severe lack of communication between players and the game itself, something that has been criticized by the director of God of War, David Jaffe, as well. This lack of communication is one of the prime reasons why a lot of players struggle to come across items of aid that help defeat the bosses as intended.

Additionally, the absence of a difficulty toggle has been a point of argument for not only Elden Ring but every Souls game since the genre’s inception. In defense, Hidetaka Miyazaki stated in an interview earlier that lowering the difficulty of the title would ‘break the game’ itself.
