Forget Judas, Bioshock 4 is Finally Getting Somewhere!

by NewsB

The last game in the Bioshock series, Bioshock Infinite, was wrapped up with an expansion pack, Burial at Sea Episode 2, in 2014. It seems like the series is all set to continue without Ken Levine, Infinite‘s director, who is preparing to release his own game called Judas which is set to launch next year.

The Senior Cinematic Designer at 2K Cloud Chamber has announced that the team has many positions open. It seems like they are gathering a team to start the development soon. Levine’s Infinite was the last game in the franchise and despite its success, he felt like he trapped himself with the series.

Jeff Spoonhower, the Senior Cinematic Designer at 2K Cloud Chamber, has confirmed on LinkedIn that the Bioshock team at 2K Cloud Chamber is ramping up. This means that 2K plans to start the development of the next entry in the iconic series after 11 years.

Infinite was the last game in the franchise. Despite being a massive success, director Ken Levine revealed that this title would be Irrational Games’ last entry in the series. After putting out a trilogy of successful games, the talented team was eventually dissolved.

In 2014, Take-Two (2K’s parent company) CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that a Bioshock game is their priority. Now, roughly 10 years later, it might finally be happening. The series won’t be the same without Ken Levine but it’s certainly exciting to see how the franchise further progresses.

After Infinite released, Irrational Games was eventually rebranded into Ghost Story Games, a much smaller team under Take-Two Interactive. During his appearance on the Sacred Symbols podcast in May 2023, Ken Levine explained that he felt like he trapped himself with his former series.

He explained that he left the series because the success of Infinite put pressure on him to do it again with the next game. Ken Levine is the founder of Ghost Story Games, which has a much smaller team, unlike Irrational Games.

As the lead of Ghost Story Games, Levine is excited to give players his first video game since Infinite. At the Game Awards 2022, the studio revealed its first game. It is expected to be released in mid-2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.

Levine is also known for his work on Thief: The Dark Project and System Shock 2. Do you think Levine’s next game will be better than the next Bioshock game? Share your opinions in the comments!
