PlayStation remains dominant in the hardware space as the PlayStation Portal is confirmed to be the best selling gaming accessory year-to-date in the U.S.
According to data gathered by Circana and reported by executive director Mat Piscatella, the PlayStation Portal, Sony’s handheld cloud streaming hardware, is the best selling gaming accessory year-to-date. In addition, it was also the best selling accessory in the U.S. and UK in the month of May.
The PlayStation Portal was the best-selling accessory in dollar sales for both May and 2024 year-to-date.

The PlayStation Portal, which allows users to stream their PlayStation 5 console onto a smaller handheld screen via cloud technology. It originally launched in November 2023 and sold out in the U.S. and UK within two days.
In addition, Piscatella revealed that accessory spending overall reached a total of $148 million, an 8% drop from last year. However, headphone and headset spending increased 10% in contrast. Gamepad sales have dropped 12%. It looks as though hardware and accessory sales in general are seeing a slight dip overall from 2024. This may change if the rumored Xbox handheld is announced or released later this year but as of yet, this has yet to occur.
