Age of Mythology: Retold closed beta kicks off soon

by NewsB

Age of Mythology: Retold’s closed beta is kicking off this week for those who shelled out for the Premium Edition. The beta will be available until July 14, giving players the weekend to return to the mythology-focused strategy game. This comes on the heels of the Xbox Games Showcase.

According to the Age of Mythology website, beta players will get access to the tutorial to brush up on your skills in case it’s been a while, the first five missions of the Fall of the Trident campaign. Skirmish and multiplayer modes are also available, with the latter limited to eight players for the closed beta. Three of the four Pantheons will be available for use — Greek, Norse, and Egyptian.

As with any beta, the purpose of it is to root out the bugs, see community feedback, and such. Now, going into the beta, it should be known there are issues, particularly surrounding the game’s supported languages not fully working, cross-network play between Microsoft Store and Steam users, and Microsoft Store and Xbox invites may be grayed out, but there is the in-game invite system that should function as intended.

Age of Mythology: Retold is the revival of the legacy series from 2002, which has grown a sizable community, but hadn’t gotten any new content since Tale of the Dragon in 2016. Retold’s release will see all animation work redone, music reworked, and more options to the player. It appears that Tale of the Dragon content won’t release at the same time as the game, though.

Age of Mythology: Retold launches to Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 4. Meanwhile, the beta kicks off 11 AM on July 12, closing out on July 14 at 11:59 PM.
