Even Sam Lake Thinks The Simpsons Included a Not So Subtle Nod Towards Alan Wake 2

by NewsB

It’s not just Alan Wake 2‘s players that can’t get enough of the Koskela brothers.

Their infectious hilarity seems to have spread outside of the game. In fact, it looks like The Simpson was able to predict their existence! Were you able to spot the subtle reference? You wouldn’t be the only one—even the writer of Alan Wake was able to see it.

The creative mind behind the Alan Wake franchise, Sam Lake, recently shared an exciting discovery on his official X/Twitter account.

Lake, who also serves as the motion capture actor and voice actor for the character, posted a screenshot from an episode of The Simpsons.

In the image, Homer Simpson is looking at his phone and sees an ad for “Kalsarikännit,” a Finnish term that refers to the feeling of drinking at home in your underwear.

The ad features a character who bears a very close resemblance to Ilmo from the Koskela brothers, the quirky coffee-selling duo from the second Alan Wake.

Sure, the Kalsarikännit and the Koskela brothers’ coffee business might seem worlds apart, but the visual similarity is uncanny, and it’s hard not to see it as a playful nod.

When Lake uploaded the post for his fans to see, all of them loved it. Regardless of whether you’re a fan of only one or both of these series, it’s always cool to see two completely different worlds collide in this manner.

It’s a long-time running joke that The Simpons is able to predict everything.

Previously, it depicted Donald Trump’s presidency, Lady Gaga flying across the air suspended from cables, the concept of Smart Watches, and more, even before they happened.

This time, it somehow predicted the existence of the Koskela brothers, and it looks like Lake isn’t the only one who noticed the similarities at first.

Spoilers ahead, but one person jokingly predicted that the upcoming Lake House DLC would end with Homer being found as the Master of Many Worlds, instead of Wake.

The 1989 sitcom has so many references to current trends in pop culture and the like.

It would be cool to see it mking an intentional nod to Alan Wake in the future. We’d love to know if you’ve spotted any Alan Wake references in any other games (aside from Remedy’s universe, of course).

Also, if you could see any franchise parodied in the Alan Wake games, which one would it be? Let us know in the comments below!
