Hackers Claim To Have Stolen Data From Disney

Nearly a decade ago, Sony Pictures was the victim of a massive hack that illegally posted numerous internal emails from the studio. Now, Disney is the latest victim of hacking attack, but the full extent of the leak isn’t immediately clear.

Via The Wall Street Journal, the hacker group known as Nullbulge announced that it targeted Disney because of “how it handles artist contracts, its approach to AI, and [its] pretty blatant disregard for the consumer.” Nullbulge claims to have infiltrated Disney’s Slack account and stolen “computer code and details about unreleased projects.”

However, Nullbulge’s claims about the value of the data taken during the hack may be overblown. While the data published by Nullbulge does date back to 2019, most of it appears to be fairly innocuous, including conversations about maintaining Disney’s corporate website and pictures of dogs shared by Disney’s employees.

Cyber security researcher Eric Parker shared his belief with The Wall Street Journal that Nullbulge isn’t actually a group at all. Instead, he believes that it’s simply a single individual.

“He’s not doing it for money,” said Parker. “I think this is an attention seeking exercise.”

Disney is reportedly investigating the hack and how it happened.
