How to Get Murky Energy Residue in The First Descendant

by NewsB

If you have ever reached the endgame for The First Descendant, you are probably looking for Crystallization Catalysts. However, the materials are quite hard to procure. One of the hardest materials to obtain out of the recipe is the Murky Energy Residue. They only drop in a few select areas, and they drop by chance. Here’s how to get Murky Energy Residue in The FIrst Descendant.

Murky Energy Residue is only found in two specific missions in the Sterile Land:

  • Unknown Laboratory
  • The Forgottense

They drop on both normal and hard difficulty. If you want to farm stronger reactors, materials, modules, or components, you should unlock the hard mode difficulty and farm these missions.

The Unknown Laboratory and The Forgottense are Duty of the Descendant missions, which means they are lengthy dungeons. However, there is a strategy if you want to farm purely Murky Energy Residue.

After running The Forgottense around 8 times, I noticed that the Murky Energy Residue drops from the Elite Tracker in one of the first objectives of the mission. You don’t need to finish this whole mission or defeat Eterllick, the final boss, and you can open up your menu and use the “Return to Albion” option to quit. You’ll still have everything you have looted up to when you quit the dungeon.

This makes The Forgottense the easiest way to farm Murky Energy Residue. It’ll roughly take less than 2 minutes, maybe even less if you are using Bunny.

Murky Energy Residue is used for two crafts:

  • Valby Stabilizer – 40 Murky Energy Residues
  • Crystallization Catalyst – 8 Murky Energy Residues

Valby is one of the strongest Descendants in the game because of her debuffs and constant damage, so you’ll need to farm a few of these materials to unlock her Stabilizer.

However, the biggest usage for Murky Energy Residues is the Crystallization Catalyst. This material is the “prime” enhancement material in the endgame. It allows you to reset your Descendant’s level but make way for more module capacity by inserting a socket category into the modules. This is used for each Descendant, so if you want to build more than one Descendant for endgame content, you’ll need multiple Crystallization Catalysts.
