It’s Been 2 Months, So Where is the Promised ‘Reward’ From Johan Pilestedt for Helldivers 2 Fans that Stood Their Ground During the PSN Controversy?

Helldivers 2 found itself in a huge controversy 2 months ago, resulting in a total backlash against the game by the PC community. The backlash was in response to the decision made by Sony to make PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts mandatory for players across platforms to access the game.

The game received a lot of negative responses, as the criticism spread like wildfire and soon became out of control for Arrowhead or Sony to contain. Eventually, they succumbed to the demands of players and also offered a reward in return for players who stood their ground during the most difficult period of the game.

Will We Ever See the Reward That Was Promised?

Helldivers 2 was heavily review-bombed on Steam following the PSN controversy, and some players suggested immortalizing the negative review graph as a cape. The idea did not take much time to reach Arrowhead executives’ ears, and they quickly jumped on materializing it.

Johan Pilestedt, the former CEO of Arrowhead, promised that a cape design is in the works and will arrive shortly. However, it has been 2 months since the controversy, and things have relatively cooled a bit, but still, there has not been a single mention of the reward that was promised in desperation.

Nothing can be said concerning the reward as Arrowhead itself has changed in the top office, with Shams Jorjani replacing Johan Pilestedt as CEO. Arrowhead has yet to release information about the cape and has only cited the need for the right time.

The right time? Most of us already forgot about it…

The community’s patience is growing thin, and Arrowhead needs to release information regarding it soon to avoid another backlash. It has been 2 months since the PSN conflict, and players are demanding action now.

There have been some speculations that Arrowhead is waiting for the controversy to die down completely before releasing the reward, while others feel that they want to strategically place it alongside a major update, but nothing can be said for sure until an official announcement is made by Arrowhead.

Helldivers 2 Might Be Hanging by a Thread

Helldivers 2 has not had the smoothest of rides ever since its release in February. The game has sure been a success, but the road to that success has been a little bumpy, starting from the first week of its release, when the game saw many different kinds of problems, due to which they were forced to disable the PSN mandate for Steam.

Since then, it feels like Helldivers 2 has never fully recovered, and to many fans, the game hasn’t been itself as of late, most likely due to the whole controversy.

However, Steam did put up a disclaimer that claimed there would be a PSN mandate in the future so as to not catch their players off guard. Still, some countries did not have access to PSN, and it made the game completely useless to them despite spending $50 on it.

This was largely the reason for the backlash faced by them and Arrowhead themselves were quick to delegate the blame to Sony, who were the real culprits behind this scandal.
