Pokemon Sleep earns $100 million in first year

by NewsB

Ahead of its first anniversary, Pokemon Sleep, the mobile app that tracks your sleeping habits and gamifies them, has earned $100 million in its first year on the market. Japanese players make up the bulk of the profit.

In a report from Pocket Gamer,  it revealed that the wellbeing app, which kinda just feels like the sister app of Pokemon Go, earned that amount. For the record, it’s a drop in the pot for Pokemon’s normal $1 billion annual earnings, but the mobile app hasn’t been out for a year, so it is kind of impressive.

Japanese players were the majority of paying players, with the report alleging that players in the Land of the Rising Sun spent $73 million alone. While Pokemon Sleep itself is free, there is a premium pass as well as the ability to upgrade your score so you can catch better and better Pokemon.

Additionally, of the 9.8 million downloads, 44% are from Japan with US coming in second at 17% and Taiwan in third at a 7%. Peaks of profit are usually during events, like the Entei Research event or Eevee Week.
